(Yeah, I know I did the tempura pun last week but that’s never stopped Mel and Sue, so…) Seriously though, I still can’t believe the BBC has managed to lose the biggest show on television. So I won’t be surprised if they stubbornly refuse to make the switch to C4. Say what you like about their work away from Bake Off, on this show they are irreplaceable.

If Mary Berry and her beardy gimp Paul Hollywood also decide to do the decent thing, no amount of desperate public statements from C4 boss Jay Hunt will be able to delay the inevitable: Bake Off will be pulled off before the second Bread Week.

Still, at least that would earn Ms Hunt a pretty appropriate nickname to pop on her CV.

At this point, we probably shouldn’t bother pretending that we’re shocked by the news coming out of Penn State.

(Which is unfortunate, as shock makes great fuel for Internet opinion pieces.

For anyone who missed the important news of the week down at The Great British Bake Off , a quick recap.

With impeccable timing the BBC chose last Wednesday to toss Batter Week into the GBBO mix.On the face of it a seemingly innocuous and, as it turned out, fairly plodding development.Yet when coupled with the week’s other big news it was almost too much for my pun-addled brain to bear.So here goes: Why on earth would Love Productions be willing to FRITTER away such a large audience and all hope of any further commissions from the BBC?Just watch those ratings go flat as a PANCAKE when the show moves to C4.For how long will I be allowed to WAFFLE on like this before my editor loses his TEMPURA? It’s just that if I was asked to name the least likely C4 programme on TV right now, GBBO would be right up there. I know this sounds daft but lots of people only watch the BBC to avoid adverts.
